Do You Suffer From Gluttony?

Why are low-carb diets so appealing to some of us?  I know for myself, it's because of the sin of gluttony.  It's desirous to think that I can eat as much of something as I want as long as I don't go over a certain amount of carbs.  I'm not saying that eating low-carb is wrong or bad, I believe it can be beneficial to cut back on processed carbs but I also believe there's a place in our diets for whole grains.

So what exactly is gluttony?
Gluttony, derived from the Latin gluttire meaning to gulp down or swallow, means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink or wealth items to the point of extravagance or waste.

What does God's word have to say about the subject? Here are just a few Scriptures on the subject:

Proverbs 23:20
Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat

Proverbs 23:2
And put a knife to thy throat,if thou be a man given to appetite.

Proverbs 23:21

For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.

I found a wonderful article on the accepted sin of gluttony that really spoke to my heart this morning that you can read here.

We do not have to be slaves to sins
Galations 5:24
And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with it's passions and desires.

The Beginning of Wisdom

Created to be his Helpmeet Chapter 6!

Ok so after reading this chapter ,I know one thing is for sure I don't want to be a crazy lady.
Speaking of fear... have you ever heard the saying ,"he/she doesn't fear anything.) Usually when that is used it is when someone is doing some thing irresponsible. Fear as you learned can be a good thing.
Listed were 3 verses that spoke on fear being a good thing:
Psalms111:10
Proverbs 9:10
Proverbs 1:7

Learning to be my husbands helpmeet was the best thing I did for myself and my marriage. You do not know what you will like or dislike until you try it. Titus 2:3 was listed as a reference verse and I see why. I wasn't taught by my mother to be sober and love my husband, So there were many times I recall saying aloud and to myself... "he never had a problem with this when we were dating...." "I'd be better off alone.." or the infamous ," I'm a grown woman, no one can tell me what to do.." Yes thoughts like this are common and should be rebuked these thoughts will cause nothing but harm and a miserable marriage. It wasn't until I grabbed this book that I realized I had so much power within my own actions and words to change even the most "un changeable" man.

So lets get to that "Crazy lady." Thankfully I have never been the one to lose it out in public.( I said public, I'm not perfect ;-) ) Though I do recall many a time where I have seen a miserable woman going off on their spouses looking so proud of themselves for proving their point for the world to see. I also remember recalling my thought that I had when I saw it . They were usually thoughts of ..that poor man.. Or she's making a fool of herself..
So you see why I didn't want to be in that category.
We as women tend to shut or husbands out because we don't feel like they are in the word enough, we think "how could he tell me what to do when he doesn't even know the will of God. Well you know that rebellious spirit is a sign of distrust in the Lord. God wants us to be a helpmeet to our husbands period. It doesn't have stipulations such as: only if he's saved...or if he's sweet to you ..if he faithful. NO what is your duty is YOUR duty no one else's so no excuses DO IT. 1 Sam 15:23 is a great verse about King Saul's offerings to God but his disregard to the will of God! How that is a rebellion equal to witch craft!
Ok Ladies our Time to consider:
Remembering that peace is a fruit of the spirit . Galatians 5:22-23
Let us not practice bitterness or those woeful things that drag us down and make us miserable. Someone once told me something that changed my world, " when you hold onto anger toward someone the only person that's being affected is you, because that anger is building within you. The other person has no effects and can continue on with their merry life."
Proverbs 30:21-23 for three things the earth is disquieted, and four which it cannot bear: For a servant when he reigneth ; and a fool when he is filled with meat; For an odious woman  when she is married; and a handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
Definition of odious :
extremely unpleasant; repulsive.

So did you look up fear in the KJV bible? Can you say you truly fear the Lord.
I took the liberty in searching a few verses for you:
Proverbs 1:7
Ecclesiastes 12:13
Luke 1:50

So lets continue to love and obey the Lord. Don't let yourself become a crazy lady.

Created to be his Help Meet- The Gift of Wisdom, chapter 5

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

This chapter focuses on seeking wisdom, concerning marriage, from the Lord.

Does wisdom pour forth out of the words you speak?

Would one think you wise by your actions?

What if you feel your husband doesn't deserve it? OR You're thinking that you can start seeking God for wisdom once your husband starts living like he's saved?

Think back to the story of queen Esther... beyond ridiculous was her marriage. Of all people, she could have complained the most about her husband, but didn't. What she did do is seek wisdom from the Lord.  You can read the book of Esther here

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever!

Proverbs 1:2 To know wisdom and instruction,
to understand words of insight.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 8:11 for wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.

Proverbs 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

Greek word for wisdom: chokmah- wisely, skillful man, wits

Questions to ponder:

What is the key to understanding our roles as wives?

Where are peace and joy found?

Are you committed to a Christ-centered  marriage?

Created To Be His Helpmeet :4

A chapter related to being joyful! It is your choice .
I know there was a point in my marriage where I wanted my husband to hurt just as much as he hurt me. I then realized that would never happen because we are made different , all that bitterness would cause him to do was to stay a way from me and in-turn end up hurting me further.

As wives and ladies we need to recognize that we have a lot more power then we know. We  can make people around us happy by being joyful or make people stay clear of us by being bitter. Remember the things that you are thankful for and you will notice joy will follow.
“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
I love the story of how they played together as a couple and I believe THIS was a major factor that help in my marriage. Even the smallest change like leaving love notes around or kicking his pillow off the bed while wearing a menacing grin. Just be a play mate and a joyful one.
Traits of a good helpmeet that's listed at the end of this chapter are
-She is joyful
-She makes love fun
-She is thankful and content
"But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD." Jonah 2:9
Joy is mentioned over 30 times in the bible!
- Make a written list of ways that you can start showing your thankfulness; then start living your list and show a thankful life-

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Created to be his Helpmeet, chapter 3- A Thankful Spirit

This chapter was all about contentment.  A subject that a lot of us Christian women find ourselves having trouble with.  Are you content with the life your husband provides or are you complaining, making an outright attack on his ego? Are you appreciative and thankful to your husband or are you trying to be his Holy Spirit?  Oftentimes, I hear a lot women say, "If only..., if he..., I could if..."  I've said these exact things myself.  So many excuses to find a way out of what God calls us to.  BUT,  if in God's Word you don't see Him starting a command with exceptions or giving a command with them, then why do we? All of a sudden does God's commands not apply to us? Don't allow your heart to be hardened to the things of God.

Phil 4:11 ...for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

Heb 13:5 ... and be content with what you have.

1 Tim. 6:6-8  But godliness with contentment is great gain,  for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.  But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

If you are having trouble in being content, start practicing it today. Just because you've always been a certain way or had trouble in a certain area, doesn't mean that you can't change. Seek the Lord for help in this.

Romans 8:26  Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness...

Things to think on:

Have I been discontent with my lot in life?

Do I verbally show thanksgiving everyday?

Do I daily thank God for my husband?

Would my friends describe me as joyful, thankful, and content?

Much To Do (Cleaning today!)

Ok I don't know about you but Created to be his helpmeet is so helpful every time I read it, I Feel like I learn something new each time I go through it. Now I don't know about you but I will make sure to not play the pitiful victim. But also attempting to place a smile on my face each time my husband and my eyes meet. I know if I give him a wonderful smile each time he looks at me he wont have to go searching for that from anyone else.

Now cleaning time :
So my floors are looking a bit ashy ( for lack of a better word )so today I will be polishing my hard wood and tile floors. Now before you go running to pine sol or other cleaners and polishers let me tell you there are natural oils you can spiff up your floors with ...

Jojoba oil just dab on a rag and wipe it dries super fast and will leave your floors shiney
Then for a less pricey option try Tung oil again apply and wipe off excess with a rag.

Please make sure it is a 100% natural oils your floors and you will be much happier for it.

Also lets make sure our laundry is clean and folded and vacuum some of those hidden areas (closets, small hallways spare rooms etc...)

Get cleaning and have fun
Oh BTW my clean up music choices for today would have to be Mary Mary -GO Get It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADGnIi9KrLQ
and hummmmm... Wes Morgan - He paid it all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud1PRdQYBFo

Have fun and remember to praise God in the midst of your busy day!

Created to be his Helpmeet chapter 2, A Merry Heart

Lets have a merry heart,
A joyful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
I love the reminder in this chapter about smiling. Why would emphasis even need to be placed on it? Well, lets think about when you and your husband first met, when you first starting dating each other, I bet you were all smiles, laughter and giggles. Now fast-forward to the present, are you still smiling or are you pitiful looking, bitter, angry and/or sickly looking? Our husbands are attracted to that smile, that giddiness you once had over him. Even as your looks start to change and go downhill, your smile can make the difference in your husbands attraction to you. Have you ever seen couples where the woman looks as if she may have been struck with an ugly stick, she's frumpy, tired looking, and has not aged gracefully, but her husband still adores her? You wonder what her husband sees in her. How can he possibly seem so in love with her still? It could be that she has a merry/joyful heart. Men are attracted to a womans smile, so much so that he can overlook her physical imperfections (which we all have) and love her like no other. I'm not saying let yourself go because of course our husbands appreciate our physical beauty but a smile and a sweet spirit can do wonders. Question to ponder: What can I do today to make my husband smile?

Nows the time!

OK calling all home makers !! I just wanted to say that anywho so if you are not looking like my sister right now with the tons of snow in the front then now is the time to weed and feed your yard. Don't worry ladies its easier then vacuuming. All you do is take the spreader (basket on wheels) pour your weed and feed into(looks like a lot of discolored mini pebbles) and walk around the yard pushing the basket. STOP a little dramatic I know but a common misconception is to do it before its about to rain FALSE if you spread before it rains the rain will wash away your hard work.

Next who needs spring cleaning?? OK everyone needs it but right now IS the perfect time to go through your closets and get rid of stuff. If you're like me and your kids closets don't have much to give away... I bet the toy chest does. Make an effort to find at-least one thing to get rid of out of every closet in your house and donate it..
pest control : Man spraying insects- pest control
Then take your bug repellent and get to the base boards!!( before you know it ,it will be hot out and the bugs will begin looking for food that is readily available within the dust particles in our homes.) TIP : Also go around the base of your garages and patios those are generally spots that house a lot of dust and it will become an extra barrier for the bugs to have to get through before reaching your home.
FilterFast Brand 30920 Replace…
Speaking of dust if you have a lot of it for some reason, it IS perfectly normal. Now is about the time to change our filters in our furnaces. I bet the heat has been running and chances are if you have not changed that filter within the last 3-6 months your house is looking a bit more dusty. Change the filter and you'll be set to go.
So I hope you enjoyed our before spring to do list :-) The items on the list may seem time consuming or overwhelming but believe me you will be glad you did it

God's Gift... a study on Created to be his Helpmeet

What exactly is a Help Meet? Well, honestly it was something that I(Amy), spent numerous years not doing well. My husband and I fell in love as teenagers and married as teenagers as well. Neither of us saved. If you haven't accepted Jesus as Savior, please take some time to read here. Two unsaved, teenage, sinners, went about the business of having kids and moving forward in marriage however we knew how. Neither of us being brought up knowing exactly what a godly, christ-centered marriage looked like. To keep an extremely long story short, we both ended up coming to know Christ and through the help of the Holy Spirit, which dwells in us
By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us
and wisdom granted from our Heavenly Father
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him
God led us to resources to help us in our walk with Him. One of those resources I was led to and has helped me immensely is the book, Created to be his Help Meet by Debi Pearl. And as we mature in our faith, we are to share the knowledge we have with other women
and so train the young women to love their husbands and children
Thus, my sister and I feel led to share what we're gleaning week-by-week throughout the above mentioned book. SO, what is a help meet? Help-Meet:
(Heb. 'ezer ke-negdo; i.e., "a help as his counterpart" = a help suitable to him), a wife (Gen 2:18-20). We are helpers that have been suited for our own husbands.
For man was not made from woman, but woman from man.
Since us women have been created to be helpers to our man, let's ponder the question, In what ways can we be helpers to our husbands? One example would be to be there to help when he needs. I was recently handed a list of things my husband needed me to accomplish for him that day. He generally doesn't give me lists so I knew that he really needed my help in these things. Well it just so happened that he gave me a list on my busiest day of the week. Not only did I need to fulfill my role as homemaker, home school mom, taking two kiddos to classes that day, so on and so on BUT I had this list! Like I referenced earlier, thanks be to God for giving me the Holy Spirit and wisdom. I graciously accepted that list and prayed for God to order my day and allow me the grace to accomplish what needed to be done. He did. That day ran a little differently. After bible study, I went about fulfilling the items on that list and then accomplishing other necessary tasks that day. Let me tell you, that husband of mine was blessed! Anyone and everyone around could tell how much he appreciated that I had put him first and been the helper God had called me to be.

Clutter OUT Clothes IN (Declutter your closet)

So my fabulous sister (Amy) is always super great at keeping me in check. So it was no surprise when she asked me to pick a dirty spot in my house (a Fire) and put it out. So my fire was my closet and its no surprise to people that know me I'm a bit meticulous when it comes to my closet space, hey I only have to see it multiple times a day and pick out my clothes that's going to represent my feeling for the day I should be overly inspired to keep it tidy. That is why today I'm bringing in simple steps to de-clutter your closet..

Step 1
Clear out- Those clothes that you don't want, get rid of them . They don't fit, bye bye and if you still enjoy them set them on your bed for later.

Step 2
Clean up-  Vacuum, sweep, clean and heck beautify if you want to add some bedazzle to the wall now's your shot, some paint here and there doesn't hurt either. If not just clean :-)

Step 3
Plan- You should be a little sweaty now so here's your chance to take a break; really analyze how you want your closet to look and how it can best suit your needs. TIPS If you don't have drawers in your closet and can't get them now cute baskets on the shelf help to keep your small items in check. If you don't like hanging certain items no fears find an area in the closet that's perfect for hosting folded items.

Step 4
Utilize- Lets get back to work and utilize that beautiful freshly cleaned space. Hang nice shirts where they are easily accessible, that's what you will probably grab the most. Next your pants/jeans; If your like me you don't wear dresses It's good to hang those in the back, my dresses are actually in a totally separate closet(due to lack of wear.)Then shoes lets put the ones you use most toward the floor the shoes you don't wear as much can be placed nicely on a shelf. Now my bags are in the separate closet I mention earlier a nice trick is to hang them on hangers toward the back of the closet.

Step 5
Decorate- Now's your chance to do little changes here and there and also add your own flare maybe a plant here a mirror there whatever you think looks nice. Remember this is your area that is essentially going to start everyday so ask yourself while your decorating," will this brighten my day?"

Valentines Day Crafts!!

OK I have been searching for some great craft ideas. First let me tell you what I did for Valentines day with my little man... I cut out shapes of trucks and trains (his favs right now)Then let him cut out circles and squares to glue onto the vehicles and we wrote the names of the receivers to make his valentines cards. Then tape a little goodie on there and you have a homemade valentine. I Also got the standard candy hearts which there are lots of alternatives.. I like lollipops made with fruit juice instead of sugar. I snagged a hot wheels car from Walmart they have these cute mystery packs for a little over $1 that has a surprise car with matching sticker,(Which is awesome for toddler boys.) So enough about me lets take a look at some of these awesome crafts I've seen flying around.

Hersey kiss mice!
Snag the tutorial for these cuties at cafemom.com

Keep Your House Clean

Have you ever walked into a neighbors house by surprise and wondered how on earth their house was spotless. How about Getting a surprise guest and thinking OMG there is a sink full of dishes or why did my kids decided to make a clubhouse in the living room today. Well I have some suggestions What I have been doing lately is everyday at 1 hour before my husband gets off work that's our time to clean up all the toys. A great idea is  planning specific days to clean certain areas . My sister has 1 day a week that is laundry day. That's the normal fact many people have laundry day but what about bathroom day or dining room day. You will never be caught off guard the next time a neighbor appears. I know many of you are thinking (I need to clean all the open areas of my house every day,)straightening up is basic cleaning but when it comes to your say "living room day" that's when you whip out the vacuum, the duster even the carpet cleaner (like me for some of these marks that happen to show up out of no where when you have children.) So pick out what days are specific room days you can also get your older children involved by assigning them a room like hey Boy #1 Friday is your day to clean the kitchen. Youngest baby girl #3 Tuesday is your day to pick up the play room. Have fun with it even get motivational by offering something like hot chocolate after their days work is finished. For me a hot bath after a busy day with a big room like the recreation room or hot coffee after a long workout lol. Have fun and stay organized! :)

Speedy cleaning for pots and pans!

With all this delicious food my sister is posting I figured I would share some ways I speed my cleaning up. I wouldn't say I am a house cleaning connoisseur but everyone who visits always mentions how clean my house is(which is funny because I almost always have dishes in the sink lol) but I am working on that. Any who so I was recently on the phone with my wonderful sister who was needing help to clean out the oven. We all know those ovens can get pretty nasty and when you try to stay as green as possible you get crafty, "for lack of a better word." So While I was telling her I use only soap and water she was astounded... I got questions like..." what about the stuck on stuff??" or "Are you sure you don't use oven cleaner??" My favorite question I get is," Do you do the scary oven cleans itself thing??" That last one scared me half to death the 1st time I did it BTW. Nope I just scrap every thing out with a spatula then sweep it up and clean it out with soap and water. Many people don't think about using a spatula to clean their ovens nor using a mini broom to sweep the counters these are all little tricks I have used for a long time to keep my house spic and span.. So finally POT and PANS! Have you ever scrapped and scrapped and scrapped some more only to end up tired with a half clean scrapped up pan. Or how about dumping a ton of water into that pot to end up with a yucky looking pot in your sink until the stuff in it loosens. No more! The way I clean these icky little messes is by simply heating them on the stove like I am about to cook with them and then wiping them off with a paper towel when they are nice and warm. I saves tons of time and I don't sweat trying to remove grime from my dishes. Btw if you make rice or something else sticky the above method will work though its easy just to rinse them as soon as you are finished cooking with them. Please remember to take care while you are cleaning with hot items and Have Fun!

A "Duggar" dinner

My hubby has made mention to me that he'd like some southern homestyle dinners once in awhile. If you know me, then you know it is super hard for me to stray from healthy. While there are ways to make this dish healthier, that's not quite what he's looking for. I know because I've already tried it :-) So, what's a wife to do? I wanna please my man so here's to a "Duggar dinner", which I will try and incorporate more of these type of meals in my menu.  Duggar Family Blog: Updates and Pictures Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar 19 Kids and Counting: Official Chicken n a Biscuit Recipe: The moment you have all been waiting for!
